The Texas State Veggie Fair Promises Deep-Fried Atonement from the Other State Fair

It seems like perfect timing. Wait until the masses have eaten so much deep-fried everything on the kitchen table, then artfully offer them a healthy alternative. The Texas Veggie Fair will drop all the veg that's fit to fry on Reverchon Park Sunday, October 20. Arteries are relaxing in a sigh of relief everywhere.

Don't think you have to be a full-blown vegan to enjoy your time here. Organizer James Scott claims his event has quadrupled in attendance in four years. He expects it to continue to draw a well-rounded mix of vegetable enthusiasts from hard-core vegans to devoted carnivores who maybe like broccoli once in a while.

If a tofu corn dog and a chance to give your heart, some animals and perhaps the entire planet a break isn't enough to hook you, the musical lineup is no slouch, either. Erykah Badu is a vegan herself and will headline with a DJ set after sharing some thoughts on her own transition into the meat-free world.

Of course, you don't have to go vegan to benefit from an event like this. Dropping the meat from just one meal a week can yield some positive results. Instead of searching the internet for the next best smoothie recipe, get outside and interact with real people who understand how to conjure delicious meals from their vegetables.

Still not sold? I know, tofu can be scary. There's a local beer garden you can soothe yourself with.
