'Tis the season of charitable giving and charitable drinking. Go to Hacienda on Henderson this Sunday for Tequila for Toys: A Care-aoke Christmas, benefiting Toys for Tots. Bring an unwrapped toy for the charity and receive a free shot of Tequila Avion. Margaritas and Avion shots are $3 all night, so you can be thoroughly prepared to take the stage when karaoke starts at 9 p.m. Remember, folks, it's all for the children.

Also going on this weekend...

This weekend the malls will be packed with thousands of last-minute shoppers and almost as many screaming infants in strollers. Do your last minute shopping at the Four Seasons Market's special winter market, outside The Village Shops at Castle Hills (2560 King Arthur Blvd., Lewisville). While parents are fighting over the last Elmo doll inside the shopping center, you'll be outside shopping for products from local farmers and food purveyors. Pick up some Texas olive oil from The Joy Farm, cupcakes from Candi's Organic Bakery, and barbecue seasoning from Big Al's Texas Rubs. Don't forget to grab a baguette from Empire Baking Company and fresh pasta from Lucidos Pastas for dinner. There are also vendors selling jewelry, bath products and other items on your holiday shopping list. The winter market is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday.

Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
