Urbano Cafe FINALLY Offers Booze

It's rarely a problem. In the past, if a customer had forgotten to bring vino with them for dinner at Urbano Cafe, they could just run around the corner to Jimmy's and pick up a bottle of Sangiovese. The thing is, Jimmy's closes every day at 7:30 p.m., which can leave evening diners stranded. If you've ever tried to navigate the alcohol selection at the small grocery across the street, it can be frustrating enough to make you look for alternative dinner plans.

Kristen Kauffman, co-owner of the popular East Dallas restaurant, says that will no longer be a problem — the restaurant recently obtained a permit to sell beer and wine. Your cup of Sonoma Valley pinot overfloweth!

Value hunters shouldn't be dismayed. Urbano Cafe has been one of the best deals going as a BYOB restaurant, and Kaufman says customers will be able to bring their own booze just like before. But for those who forget (which I almost always do if I'm visiting the restaurant last second) they'll have plenty of affordable bottles for you to choose from.

In addition to a sancerre that's calling my name at $31 a bottle, they'll offer 11 white wines and nearly 20 reds. Expect both domestic bottles and vintages from France, Italy, Spain and Argentina. A local beer list will pull from Deep Ellum Brewing Co., Community Brewing and Grapevine, too.
