This Weekend: Big Tex Choice Awards, Babes Who Brunch and a Brewery that's Gone to the Dogs

Love cooking with fresh herbs but hate the price-tag associated with buying them? Or maybe you've already tried your hand at growing herbs, only to realize that your green thumb is brown. Either way, the City of Denton Sustainability organization is here to help. They will lead a free class on choosing and planting a variety of herbs that are adapted to the Texas climate. As part of this discussion you'll learn all about proper soil preparation and planting techniques. In short, you'll learn how to give your thyme more time on this green earth.

Another day, another brewery opening. But wait — this one is different! Different because one of its co-investors is none other than Chris Harrison, esteemed host of

The Bachelor

. That's right, when not supervising the distribution of roses, Harrison has helped create a Trinity Groves brewery that is outfitted with all the bells and whistles. With a full cocktail bar, lunch and dinner service and a wide-ranging beer list featuring proprietary and guest beers, Steam Theory Brewing Company is hoping that Dallasites will accept this brewery.

While we might have a more complete shoe collection without them, we still owe a debt of gratitude to our dogs. Those faithful companions whose inclination to shout at mailmen is second only to their deep and abiding desire to be our BFF. So why not take your pup out on the town to celebrate National Dog Day? Head to Lakewood Brewery's beer garden, where you and Rover can pull up a table and commiserate over a pint. Rover will probably want a dog ale from Simba's Barkery, while you can imbibe in a Lakewood pint knowing that your purchase benefited Patriot Paws Service Dogs. You can also get Rover's pawtrait drawn by the on-site artist and pick him up some fancy new duds from Bark & Bones Boutique.

The Rustic is sending out its siren song in the form of Babes Who Brunch. Call it a self-care focused brunch, call it an Exceedingly Basic Way to Spend Your Time — at the end of the day you'll have been well fed and cost-effectively manicured. Cherry, the new on-demand nail service, will be onsite offering $5 manicures. The freshly coiffed can then imbibe in The Rustic's family-style jam and toast brunch, which is said to feature both jam and toast.
