Jacob Metcalf Includes Crowd in his Performance

Jacob Metcalf’s Strawberry Summer at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center lobby included a new sound, featuring electric guitars and a loop pedal, violinist Leoncarlo as Metcalf’s duets parter for the set, and special appearances by Hilly Holsonback on piano & Dan Bowman on trumpet. At one point Metcalf brought the show directly to the people watching, engaging several people to play the bells during a song as he carried it through the audience. He also invited the crowd to join in and “jingle their keys” during one song. A beautiful set that was truly enchanting in the opulent setting with haunting acoustics. Photos by Jessica Waffles
