The Rangers nascent rivalry with the Toronto Blue Jays went full boil Sunday afternoon, when Texas second baseman Rougned Odor landed a clean right hook to Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista’s jaw during the top of the eighth inning of the rubber match of a three-game series.
Following being hit by a Matt Bush pitch to open the eighth, Bautista went for Odor’s knees in an attempt to injure Odor break up a double play. Odor took exception and threw one of the better shots you’ll even see in a baseball fight, staggering Bautista, who’s been a public enemy in Arlington ever since his home run, and ensuing bat flip, that knocked the Rangers out of last year’s playoffs.
The Rangers won 7-6. Odor, already a fan favorite, is now a folk hero. Long live Roogie.
