According to press materials for One in 3, statistics show that in a random selection of women–say, for instance, at the grocery store, a sporting event or even church–one of every three will have had an abortion. That’s an interesting statistic, to say the least, for a subject that’s often considered the taboo-est of taboo. But three women, Gretchen Dyer, Victoria Loe Hicks and Merritt Tierce, decided it shouldn’t be so unmentionable, so they wrote an original play to tell the widely varying stories of “a group of women who have virtually nothing in common except the need to confront this most complex and personal of decisions.” One in 3–and this is not even coming close to giving the material the respect it deserves–takes one experience and shares it via gut-wrenching, laughable, shocking and, yeah, totally relatable tales (even for the other two in three women or emotionally open guy). It’s about anger, apathy, relief and everything in between, while leaving politics at the door. Project X offers up the production (with proceeds from this run benefiting Texas Equal Access Fund), Wednesday through January 31, 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays at Project X Studio at the Green Zone, 161 Riveredge Drive. Tickets are $20. Call 214-421-2400 or visit onein3.org.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 21. Continues through Feb. 27, 2009
