Though most artists tend to start with the basics (pencil, paint, clay) before entering the world of au courant installations and found art, Texas native Kevin Renner seems to have taken an alternate journey. A former large installation man who worked with found art and natural materials to create his sculptures and kinetic art, years of work (and separation) have allowed him to evolve into the artist he is today — a ceramicist and painter. During a decade long hiatus from the site work and large productions that took him all over the country, Renner found his love in teaching and coaching, yet the artist remained and has emerged once again. Renner is reentering the art world with a solo show, Mind, Body & Spirit: Sculpture and Paintings, at The Norwood Flynn Gallery, everyone’s favorite Texas-centric gallery housed in a cute little Bachman Lake cottage. Mind, Body & Spirit: Sculpture and Paintings is on display now through October 1 at Norwood Flynn Gallery, 3318 Shorecrest Drive. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays or by appointment. Norwood Flynn Gallery is free and open to the public. Call 214-351-3318 or visit norwoodflynngallery.com.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 10. Continues through Oct. 1, 2011
