Photographer Hal Samples just wishes everyone would take off their blinders. You know, those devices we all have that “protect” us from seeing a homeless man on the street and additional “unpleasantries”…like, say, 6,000 other homeless struggling to factor into someone’s line of sight in this city. Samples has, for the last month, offered up a collection of his photographs, Samples of Society, in an effort to promote social consciousness. See, all proceeds (sales and donations) from the show at Nine Eyes Gallery, 130 N. Peak St., go to a Dallas County Young Democrats project that will provide (and has already provided over the course of the show) funding for individuals’ supportive housing, health care needs, case management and more. The project also benefits and works with Central Dallas Ministries in an effort to remedy Dallas’ homeless issue. So, let’s go out on a limb here and venture a guess that many missed the opening event and gallery hours for Samples of Society. No worries. Samples and Nine Eyes are hosting a closing reception from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday with a multimedia presentation at 9 p.m. Now’s your chance to sample real life via some incredible photography. Admission is free. Donations are encouraged. Blinders are prohibited. Call 214-841-EYES or visit nineeyesstudio.com.
Sat., May 6, 7 p.m.
