Something about The Little Dog Laughed reminds me a bit of Oscar from NBC’s The Office. It works a sort of tragic storyline—hiding one’s homosexuality—into a tale that’s at once both funny and relatable. I guess that’s the sign of good comic writing, though, that the hardest things one can deal with in life usually end up having the most laughable by-products. Now, Little Dog does have its differences from the Scranton paper shipping sitcom. Instead of Oscar who dwells dutifully in accounting, Mitchell Green is a Hollywood hottie, thought to be a ladies’ man and on the brink of a stunning hunk of a career. Then he falls for a boy, and his agent has to ensure no one finds out. But 10 bucks says someone will. (Then again, Mitchell Green doesn’t work with Dwight Schrute.) Find out as the WaterTower Theatre presents The Little Dog Laughed as part of its new Discover Series through November 18.
