It always makes me wonder when a band’s name incorporates the founder’s name. Do the members of Dave Matthews Band resent the fact that it’s all about Dave? Did Van Halen’s Michael Anthony ever bitch about not feeling like a real part of the band family? And don’t even get me started on Bon Jovi. So, rather than touting the musical merits (or bashing the actual lack of said merits) of Static X, I’m inclined to just ponder the roundtable discussion that Wayne Static (yeah, sure, that’s his real name) no doubt spearheaded in an effort to come up with that band name. “No, look, Ken, I’m not making it all about me! For real, it just sounds cool. You know, Static X. I’m totally open to it, but your last name is just so…I dunno…pedestrian. ‘Jay X’ just doesn’t have the same buzz, you know, man?” See if there’s any name-related drama amongst the band members when Static X plays 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Palladium Ballroom, Lamar Street just south of Interstate 30. Tickets are $20. Call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
