Presidential campaign, what? Everyone has an opinion on who should be our next leader, what they should focus on, where they should pull out from, who they should appoint as a running mate and if their clothes really send a good message to “the people.” Big deal. It’s the latest, most fashionable topic and yet, clearly, we still have issues from decades, hell eons, past to remedy. Fort Worth artist Eddy Rawlinson isn’t afraid to tackle war and violence and the role of technology in conflict as well as everyday life. Austin artist Deborah Roberts isn’t scared to protest the mainstream perception of the African American woman. But rather than don a tasteful suit and hop on the nearest cable-ready soapbox, these two present their arguments through art. Paired exhibition Empire Burlesque showcases Rawlinson and Roberts’ messages via incredible color contrast and gripping on-canvas movement. See it at Mighty Fine Arts, 419 N.
