Perched in an upstairs hideaway within Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.) is Dallas’ newest small gallery, The Safe Room. It’s brought intimate works by local and formerly local talents since materializing magically earlier this year. Its latest offering is the peculiarly crafted Nothing Fits! Told in two stories, united in space by artists Nina Harp and Erik Schuessler, Fits is described as a “joyous shake-up/thinking outside-of-the-frame union.” In Harp’s case, that play is revealed through a series of paintings directed at those objects and people closest to her. For Schuessler the project took a windier turn, a journey spent reinventing everyday items and exploring their transformation. So far we know just this for certain: The entire gallery has been covered in painted cardboard and the work will hang on it, canning the idea that a space need be sterile and white.
