Guardians of the Galaxy is bound to become the movie that you’ll have to see this summer regardless of whether or not you like comic books or you risk becoming the joy-assassin of the season. Director James Gunn, however, may have given a much needed spin on the genre. He seems to have made a comic book movie that doesn’t take its source material so seriously for fear of incurring the wrath of inhaler carrying fanboys and girls with a scary amount of attention for details. It harkens back to Gunn’s earlier work when he was free to write the kind of movie he wanted using the sick and twisted sense of humor that made him a big name director like his take on William Shakespeare for the infamous Troma Studios called Tromeo and Juliet. Relieve the director’s salad days at The Texas Theater (231 W. Jefferson Blvd) as part of their weekly Tuesday Night Trash screening. More information is available thetexastheatre.com.
