Any person can take brush, roller or aerosol can to canvas and produce a painting these days, so what makes a work of art actually art? Moreover, what makes paint paint? It’s a question not easily answered (unless, say, you pull out your Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary because you’re a smartass), but the folks at Gallery 219 have gathered a few local artists to give us their interpretations. Not Just Paint: Randy Bacon, Elizabeth Bisbing, Paul Booker, Sarah Maxwell-English and Jesse Meraz provides a series of paintings, collages and installations which present paint as a method, a material and oftentimes both. The exhibition runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (through February 9) at Eastfield College’s Gallery 219 in the Fine Arts Building, 3737 Motley Drive in Mesquite. Call 972-860-7162 or visit eastfieldcollege.com/gallery219.
Fri., Jan. 26, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
