Bob Newhart has been making people laugh since the ’60s. The Bob Newhart Show premiered in 1961. Think about that for a moment, and compare it to the longest amount of time you’ve spent doing any activity. Is there any job or hobby you can imagine doing for more than 50 years? Newhart has won the Mark Twain Award for Comedy, been named one of the 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time and just last month won his very first Primetime Emmy. (This is not a joke. He won for a guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory, so something came out of that show besides tacit nerd-bashing.) It may be time for a history lesson if you’re among the younger folk and think comedy began and ended with Louie C.K. or Aziz Ansari. Newhart performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Bass Performance Hall, 525 Commerce St., Fort Worth. Tickets start at $27.50. Visit basshall.com.
