Back in the day, the coolest birthday parties had ice cream cakes and pinatas filled with good candy, but now it seems a kid’s party isn’t cool unless you have a jumpy house or something even better, like a miniature pony that juggles. We never get invited to the birthdays with the juggling ponies, but this weekend everyone’s invited to celebrate the birthday of our favorite purple Tyrannosaurus Rex. That’s right, Barney is coming to town with his friends Baby Bop, BJ and Riff. Barney, who was created by Dallas’ Cheryl Leach, is turning 23 this year and throwing a big bash. Barney Live in Concert features interactive song and dance numbers that will have the kids dancing in the aisles. Kids will love hearing classic Barney songs like “Dino Dance,” and you’ll love the quiet time you’ll get after they crash from dancing and singing. Barney and his friends perform at The Verizon Theater, 1001 Performance Place in Grand Prairie at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday; and 1:30 and 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $16 to $35 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.
Sat., Jan. 8, 11 a.m. & 2:30 p.m.; Sun., Jan. 9, 1:30 & 5 p.m., 2011
