Help us weather the uncertain future

We know — the economic times are hard. We believe that our work of reporting on the critical stories unfolding right now is more important than ever.

We need to raise $6,000 to meet our goal by August 10. If you’re able to make a contribution of any amount, your dollars will make an immediate difference in helping ensure the future of local journalism in Dallas. Thanks for reading the Dallas Observer.

Found Magazine taught me how to save. See, every year I save up found items that I deem worthy and wait for Found Magazine's Davy Rothbart to visit Dallas celebrating another fab book release so I can give it to him in person...in a posted, addressed envelope so he doesn't have to haul it on tour, but I still get the satisfaction of handing it in. Found Magazine made me a tidier person. Since I first met Davy years ago and started eyeing the ground, I try to be more effective at hanging on to my own shit. Last thing I need is some asinine note I wrote myself to wind up a Find of the Day or in some compendium. Found Magazine inspires me to support the independent arts. This Sunday, Davy and his posse descend upon The Public Trust to celebrate the release of the latest Found book: Requiem for a Paper Bag. In it, more than 67 people--including Chuck D, Sarah Vowell, Andrew Bird, Billy Bragg, Andy Samberg, Miranda July, Tom Robbins, Patton Oswalt and others tell of their favorite finding memories. As with past tours, Davy will share stories and his brother, Peter, will perform songs based on inspiring finds. The fun begins at 8 p.m., and admission is a $5 donation (it's suggested, but c'mon, just pay already--Found Magazine made me a more charitable person). The Public Trust is located at 2919-C Commerce St. Call 214-760-7170. Visit foundmagazine.com.
