Oh, how the Li'ls have grown bigger and badder over the years. From 1935-1977, Al Capp's classic Li'l Abner cartoon featured a bumbling man-child prone to long trips. More recently, Cash Money Records features Lil Wayne, a bumbling man-child prone to long trips. 'Course, Lil Wayne bumbles 'cause he's always high, and those long trips probably have something to do with that time he was arrested and cops found cocaine and ecstasy on his tour bus. Nevertheless, audiences have found it pleasant to follow the follies of the two Li'ls, enchanted by Abner's propensity for wacky situations and Wayne's fondness for the wacky alternative spelling of the article "the," thusly: "tha." Sadly, Lil Wayne will not be appearing in the Collin Theatre Center's production of the musical comedy Li'l Abner, though a heavy dose of Lil Wayne's favorite recreational accoutrements may make the all-American feel-good romp take on new meaning. Li'l Abner is at the John Anthony Theatre, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. It runs Thursday through March 9, with performances at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and matinées at 2:15 p.m. March 2, 8 and 9. Tickets are $10 to $15. Visit collintheatrecenter.com.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2:15 p.m.; Sat., March 8, 2:15 p.m. Starts: Feb. 28. Continues through March 9, 2008
