Sometimes we have days when nothing goes right, everything falls apart and things generally suck. Thankfully, someone has taken the time to explain these depressingly inevitable days to our vulnerable youth. The Dallas Children’s Theater kicks off its 28th season with Judith Viorst’s aptly named children’s classic Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. This musical adaptation follows the titular character as he faces such relatable disasters as losing a favorite glow-in-the-dark yo-yo, having a bad hair day, taking a trip to the family dentist and not getting what he wants for dinner, all the while wishing he lived in Australia where such things never happen. Clearly Alexander has never seen Mad Max or A Cry in the Dark. This performance (for ages 5 and older) is just as relevant today as the book was when it was published in the early 1970s, preparing children for the unavoidable crappy day. The terrible day takes place at the Baker Theater, 5938 Skillman St. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday, 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Ticket prices vary.
