Tonight select Dallas theaters will participate in the one night exclusive showing of Re:Generation, a pumped up intellectual look at how today's top DJs deconstruct music into polyphonic fractions, permute and then reassemble them so your eardrums never grow stale. It's this quest for new sounds that leads each DJ in Re:Generation to mash up his own style with famous live musicians of perpendicular genres. In this documentary you'll watch collaborative efforts unfold, sometimes with ease, others against the grain, but each producing a new seven-layer dip of sound to make you can shake your can.

Skrillex unites his dubstep dance club laser beams with members of The Doors to create "Breakin' A Sweat." Mark Ronson collaborates with soulful heavy-hitters Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty, Mos Def, Zigaboo Modeliste and members of The Dap Kings to get a jambalaya's worth of southern influences in his song "A La Modeliste." The Crystal Method gets a Detroit education in rhythm and blues when they merge minds with Martha Reeves (Of Vandella's fame) and the Motown house band that finally gained much-deserved notoriety in the 2002 documentary, Standing In the Shadows of Motown, The Funk Brothers. Pretty Lights go deep and dirty twangtastic as they shake 'n' bake the song "Wayfaring Stranger" with LeAnn Rimes and Dr. Ralph Stanley. DJ Premier tugs Nas into the mix and then looks to the classics, incorporating Boston's Berklee Symphony Orchestra into the film's titular track "Regeneration."
