Help us weather the uncertain future

We know — the economic times are hard. We believe that our work of reporting on the critical stories unfolding right now is more important than ever.

We need to raise $6,000 to meet our goal by August 10. If you’re able to make a contribution of any amount, your dollars will make an immediate difference in helping ensure the future of local journalism in Dallas. Thanks for reading the Dallas Observer.

Successful philanthropies have managed to understand a key fact that drives human behavior: We are always looking for an excuse to drink. We like it even more when the reason for our drinking allows us to drink without feeling any guilt, because hangovers suck already and no one needs to feel shame along with the need to vomit because one sat up too fast. The Young Leadership Committee of the local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is once again capitalizing on these truths by hosting its second annual Brew the Cure at 2 p.m. Saturday at Community Beer Company, 1530 Inspiration Drive. You know the drill: You pay $50 to get inside, whereupon you have access to local beer, food and live music. You indulge your little heart out, knowing that the money you paid to get in is going to the JDRF so that one day your diabetic friends can do this exact same thing without having to worry about their blood sugar levels.
