Help us weather the uncertain future

We know — the economic times are hard. We believe that our work of reporting on the critical stories unfolding right now is more important than ever.

We need to raise $6,000 to meet our goal by August 10. If you’re able to make a contribution of any amount, your dollars will make an immediate difference in helping ensure the future of local journalism in Dallas. Thanks for reading the Dallas Observer.

There is something very joyful and calming about seeing a sky full of colorful balloons, floating in the air. Don’t believe it? Then consider yourself dared. Go on, just try and visit the 26th Annual Lions Club Balloon Festival and Fair without feeling the effects of happy serenity. All weekend long, there will be a flotilla of hot air balloons in the sky of Highland Village, and below, you’ll have access to tons of vendors, arts and crafts booths, live music and entertainment, and family-friendly activities to keep you occupied. Friday night the festival lifts off with a mass balloon ascension, balloon glows and tethered balloon rides. Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday at Unity Park, 2200 Briarhill Blvd. in Highland Village, and the festival lasts through Sunday evening. Admission is free, and a $5 parking donation goes to Lions Club charities. For more information and a full schedule of the weekend’s events, visit hvballoonfest.com.
