As if we needed any conformation that Malai’s Braden and Yasmin Wages were doing well with their Asian restaurant, the couple announced recently that they would be opening a second. Southlake residents are about to enjoy the culinary success the couple has been building for around four years now.

This is great for Southlake. They’ll soon get to enjoy one of the better happy hours available in Dallas, and some of the best chicken wings that have ever been served here. They’ll also get to enjoy Braden’s house-brewed beer. Actually all of us will get to enjoy more of Braden’s brews.

At the Malai in Uptown, Braden’s beer brewing efforts were severely restricted by space, as he shared kitchen space with a team that was turning out pho and pad thai while they were also washing dishes. The new Malai will feature an expanded house-brewed beer program that includes a larger brew-room. The goal is a selection of five house-made Asian-style brews on tap.

Otherwise the new Malai will remain true to its roots, offering a mix of Thai and Vietnamese dishes, and those delicious chicken wings I’m doing everything in my power not to mention five times in a single blog post.

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?

We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.

$30,000

The restaurant is expected to open sometime this fall if all goes as planned. When it does, you’ll find it in Southlake’s Park Village, which sounds a lot like Uptown’s West Village, and even more so now with Malai.
