The Wolfgang Puck restaurant in Reunion Tower began buzzing in late 2008. The hype escalated to a dull roar since then, as it announced its name (Five-Sixty by Wolfgang Puck, named for the phallus’ height), the menu (Asian-influenced) and the team, lead by Executive Chef Sara Johannes, formerly of Puck’s 20.21 restaurant in the Walker Art Center restaurant in Minneapolis, and General Manager Shawn Horne, who most recently owned and operated Kitchen 1924 in Lakewood.

But its opening was a relative whisper.

Last night, Five-Sixty hosted a soft opening, its first real night of business. Although the public will have to wait until February for the grand event, dinner reservations are being accepted now.

Guests are invited to ascend the equivalent of 50-floors to the top of the tower and take in the Five-Sixty redo, which includes a main room and two bars, illuminated glass and revolving, 360-degree views of the Dallas skyline…remember how cool we use to think that was?

The menu options include a sushi bar and Japanese Robata grills, which allow food to be prepared in the diners’ seating area. Wine lovers can choose from more than 400 labels, including wines from Austria, Argentina, France, Germany, and Italy–pretty much what you would expect to find in Asian themed restaurants.

Call 214-741-5560 to make reservations now, because even though the restaurant revolves, its buzz-worthy reputation all but guarantees that this soft opening’s quiet phase won’t come around again.
