It's Labor Day weekend, and the parties will be happening all over town.
One of the most interesting is the Expo Park Jazz Festival's "The Many Faces of Jazz." This two-day jazz festival will happen at Amsterdam Bar on Sunday and Monday and will feature 14 local and national jazz acts, including Shelley Carrol, Yells at Eels, Paul Slavens and more. The cost? Twenty bucks for a single-day pass or $30 for both days. Well worth it, we think.
If that seems a little too steep for you, here's a much cheaper option happening right down the street: The kings of the summertime party at The Double Wide will be celebrating this year's final Parking Lot Pool Party on Sunday with the help of Rhymin' and Stealin' and DJ Hammertimez for only $5. And, just a few miles away, The Libertine is hosting their free Labor Day Rock Out with Somebody's Darling.
If you're in Denton and don't feel like making the drive south, Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios finishes Free Week with performances from Nervous Curtains, New Science Projects, Pinkish Black, and Delmore Pilcrow tonight, and with Mind Spiders, Sunnybrook, Melting Season and Land Mammals on Saturday.

On Friday, The King Bucks will be back on their old stomping grounds at Adair's Saloon, and at City Tavern, The Phuss will play very loud rock and roll with the help of King Of The Rabbit Trail and Jungle Rockers. Dale Watson, meanwhile, will bring his neo-traditional country to Lola's in Fort Worth.
On Saturday, The Prophet Bar will have Jokersdeck, Tweed EQ, and 3 From Texas, and Andy's Bar in Denton will be graced by Colorado's Drag The River, and Lalagray will release her debut album at La Grange.

Berlin-based DJ Kiki joins two local DJs, Opencloud and DragonLazer, for a tempered rave at The Cavern. Cast your votes for the most ridiculous name on this bill. My money's on DragonLazer.

R&B singer Raheem "Mr. Everything" DeVaughn is on the bill over at Superpages.com Center's Budweiser Superfest on Sunday night, but, afterward, he'll be hosting the Labor Day Block Party at M Street Bar along with RC Williams & The Gritz Band. This party starts at 4 p.m., and costs $10 to attend.
The Real Femcees Of Dallas

Allow this weekend's performance at The Green Elephant to set the record straight: There are, indeed, some female rappers in town. And some of them, actually, are pretty good. This show, hosted by Vicious Cycle, will feature performances by six local female rappers--including the DC9-approved Ni Taylor--for only $10.
