Gotta admit it: We just thought he was being confident and awesome when he said it. Turns out, though, there may have been something of merit behind Kanye West's out-of-nowhere banter about the Black Eyed Peas from Friday night at the 2011 Austin City Limits festival.

"Rest in peace to the Black Eyed Peas," he announced to his massive, attentive Zilker Park audience. "You'll be missed."

Fact is, he wasn't joking.

The Black Eyed Peas are kind of done -- or at least going on an indefinite hiatus. They announced it back in July, though we'll forgive you if you missed it like we did. Beyond that, Kanye actually has some history with the group that performed the Super Bowl halftime show at the Arlington-hosted deal earlier this year; Fergie was part of the star-studded lineup that contributed to his song "All of the Lights." And that was the very same song he was performing when he issued his eulogy.

All of this begs two questions. One: Kanye likes the Black Eyed Peas? Also: Really?

I guess there are a few more: Are the Peas really done for good? Could it be? Might it not just be a hiatus?

On Saturday, Will.i.am denied as much when a Twitter follower asked for a comment on Kanye's ramblings the night before: "maybe @kanyewest was stating the fact we will take a rest for a little bit...but we the @bep will never die...never...impossible," he tweeted.

Oh well. Let 'em finish, Ye.
