Poster of the Week: Sebadoh, Quasi and Dove Hunter at the Granada Theater on Friday Night

OK, now, see, this is pretty clever.

Our love-fest with area graphic design house Magnificent Beard continues this week, as the design group completely ditches the conventional with their concept for this week's winner.

Designed to promote tomorrow night's Granada Theater show with Sebadoh, Quasi and Dove Hunter, the poster isn't actually a poster at all. It's a goddamn cake. Which is, OK, kind of messy and impractical. So, rather than whip up a whole slew of these suckers, the MagBeard crew photographed their sloppy, abused cake, and printed up their photographs for the tangible take-home product.

It's kind of genius -- a little schmaltzy, a little punk rock, and definitely sweet (pun intended). Check out some images the designers also passed along, which show some serious care taken on the printing front.

Think your poster is better? Want to see one of your designs get honored next week? Drop us an e-mail with an image promoting an upcoming show right here. Oh, and, when possible, be sure to do so at least a week in advance of the show. Thanks!

Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
