Welcome to My First Show, where we give bands a chance to talk about the first shows they ever attended -- no matter how uncool and embarrassing those tales may be.

The Globes return to Dallas this week, only a couple of months since they were last in town. Back then, opening for the mighty Archers of Loaf, the quartet impressed an ever-growing crowd at The Loft. This time around, they will be at Dada with El Ten Eleven.

Still touring off of their 2011 album, Future Self, we just had to ask one of them about first show experiences. Luckily for us, Kyle Musselwhite was willing let us in on his memories of seeing shows and playing his first gigs in the Spokane area of Washington.

He was also kind enough to talk about the playing on the same night that the Mavericks won the NBA finals -- and the pressure he and his band felt to play a Jock Jams songs.

What was the first show you remember seeing? Were you with your parents?
My first show ever was Sesame Street at the Spokane Opera House, and I must have been three or four. My mom took me. I was horrified out of my skull. At the time, I believed all Muppets to be real, for I had no evidence otherwise. Confronting the existence of Big Bird was quite a shock to my fragile system. My mom, of course, was acting like it was nothing out of the ordinary, furthering my state of confusion.

What was the first show you remember paying your own money for?
I saw 311 and Incubus at the Spokane Convention Center. I was 11 and I loved it. I was too nervous to stand in the crowd and carefully stood in the back, probably a good 200 feet from the stage.

What do you remember about the first Globes show?
I recently watched a video of The Globes' first performance. It took place at a youth group in Spokane. We were about 15. It lasted probably no more than 20 minutes, and it was the most nervous, intensely awkward 20 minutes of our career. Watching the video, it's clear that everyone in the room is talking as quickly and loudly as possible. So, in retrospect, it's comforting that no one was really paying attention.

What do you remember about the first time you played Dallas?

Our first time in Dallas took place at The Loft in the summer of '10 with Maps & Atlases. It was great. There was some kind of hardcore/emo festival going on in the same building, which made the atmosphere very... um... youthful.

Lastly, even though it was only a couple of months ago, what do you remember about the show at The Loft with Archers of Loaf... other than the Mavs winning the NBA Finals that night?
I remember feeling really good about the Mavericks victory and wanting to play the victory song from Jock Jams! I also remember getting some nice hugs from Archers of Loaf at the end of the night. It was great victory for all.

The Globes perform Friday, August 19, at Dada
