The term battle of the bands is sort of an antiquated one, yes? I mean, bands are battling every day to keep their heads above water on the Internet, to get their music to the people (and, in turn, to get people to come see their music), to keep the van running, to keep the dream alive.
What I would love to see instead of a battle of the bands is an actual physical battle. Maybe, like, The Musician Olympics. Events could include Find The Sound Guy, The 100-Yard Van Load (load and unload the van in less than 10 minutes), The Drink Ticket Dash, Freestyle Solo-Off, etc. There would be medals and opening/closing ceremonies. Can someone get on this?
So, where was I? Oh yeah, Rock the Park is your chance to submit your band’s music, then the top eight from that pool will go on to compete the weekends of April 21 and 28, with finals happening Saturday, May 12. All genres welcome.
The winner will go on to play Homegrown Fest on Saturday, May 26, and be part of what’s shaping up to be a great all-Texas lineup.
