In response to the spate of earthquakes shaking their city, Irving ISD conducted an actual earthquake drill on Wednesday in attempt to prepare students for the worst.
It’s heartening to know that the district “has procedures in place and [they] are prepared,” but the video and the procedure it documents raises more questions than answers. First, it seems like it would be quite difficult to “drop, cover and hold on” within the duration of one of our puny North Texas earthquakes. Second, how long do you have to stay like that? Murphy’s Law dictates that as soon as the kids came out from under their desks the earth would begin rumbling anew, right?
At least they’ll reap some exercise benefits and, should they stay under there long enough, maybe catch a nap.
