A Cocktail Bar Is Exactly What Meow Wolf Needed

Looks like people really do read suggestion cards. Getting tipsy in a psychedelic wormhole is what the summer needs.

Meow Wolf, an interactive and immersive art exhibit at the Grapevine Mills Mall, has unveiled its newest exhibit: a brand-new bar and story portal called Prime Materia.

Meow Wolf has been a leader in maximalist and mind-bending art exhibits since it launched in 2008 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The concept started as a small collective of artists who shared a common interest in publicly displaying their works and art skills.

It has expanded to other cities and, beyond that, it's hard to explain, but one of the best descriptions they offer is this: "Imagine if you could walk around inside art — it's like that but better."

This new activation in Grapevine, Prime Materia, is designed to give guests a new way to dive deeper into the story of Meow Wolf's ever-expanding narrative. Prime Materia is located in Lamp Shop Alley, adjacent to The Real Unreal venue space.

What's different about this space is that it offers a full-service bar with specialty cocktails, mocktails, custom snacks and a cast of new characters called the Gizmo_Mancers.

Drink offerings are mainly twists on classic cocktails like mules and margaritas, and vodka, rum, whisky, tequila and gin all have some representation on the menu. Instead of an espresso martini, they're doing a cold brew tincture made with cold brew, Baileys, Kahlua, vanilla vodka and topped with cold foam, chocolate sauce and espresso beans.

Another interesting option is the prickly pear essence that uses butterfly pea powder for a mysterious, color-changing effect. It's made with prickly pear syrup, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, tequila, blue butterfly pea powder and yogurt-flavored popping pearls. The lemon juice activates the butterfly pea powder, turning it from purple to pink or blue. Yum.

They use a mixology compiling device to carefully blend all the cocktail ingredients, and can make any drink a mocktail if you prefer no booze.

Custom snacks are supposed to complement the menu, but there isn't a menu online with the details. There is already a cafe on site that serves a variety of sandwiches, desserts and drinks, so we imagine it could be similar to that but with more pizzazz.

To access the bar, you'll have to buy tickets to the Meow Wolf The Real Unreal Exhibit. Purchase those well in advance so you can guarantee your experience. Prime Materia officially opened on June 20.

Since then, it has evolved into an over-the-top, audience-driven experience that has launched in Las Vegas, Houston, Denver, Grapevine and Santa Fe and is coming to Los Angeles and New York in 2026.
