First it’s ice, then it’s fire.

While chatting yesterday morning with Pizza Patron publicist Sandy Bell about frozen pie prices, she asked me whether I’d heard the other big Antonio Swad news: Apparently the culinary impresario — he’s president of Pizza Patron — can’t limit himself to one announcement a day.

PIRA, Swad’s new Latin-themed nightclub at the American Airlines Center, has scheduled a grand opening party to coincide with the Mavericks’ first home game. On October 27, the lounge — which opened earlier this month — will celebrate with “music, giveaways and a ribbon cutting.”

According to the press release, PIRA serves “authentic cocktails, wines and cuisine from all over Latin America.” But Bell may be most excited about what’s happening outside the building: Since PIRA means “combustible material,” there’s a 49-foot flame emanating from a copper trough on its roof.

“The big money shot is at night,” Bell e-mails. “You can see it from I-35.”
