  • Today In Music News: No One Saw Notorious, U2 Streams Its New Single, LEGO Offers Mp3 Player...

Your daily dose of music news for Tuesday, January 20, 2009... Apparently the Notorious B.I.G. biopic wasn't the hit it was built up to be. Beat in the box office by a movie about a bumbling mall cop? Really? U2 is streaming its first single, "Get on Your Boots," from the forthcoming album No Line On The Horizon on its website. Bono sunglasses not required to listen to the song. LEGO has announced the release of its own MP3 players. I can't wait to see the headp

Your daily dose of music news for Friday, February 13, 2009... Beginning on Monday, March 2, you can see Bono preening for five straight nights. Yep, U2 will be the lone musical guest on Late Show With David Letterman that whole week long.  Fred Durst will once again lead his army of thick-headed douchebags, as Limp Bizkit has reunited. Don't forget your red caps fellas!

  • Today In Music News: Duffy Goes Diet, Discs Get Leaked, Chris Brown Could Get In More Trouble

Your daily dose of national music news for Monday, February 23, 2009... Duffy has been named the new face of Diet Coke. If only Amy Winehouse could've kept her shit together... It must suck to have an eagerly awaited album coming out: Both U2's new album, No Line On The Horizon, and Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted have leaked early online. Yes, I know where you can get them and no I'm not tellin'. Apparently Chris Brown really has some problems on his hands: He c

  • Today In Music News: Bono's Frightened, Eminem's Angry, Faith No More's Back and Fred Durst Has A Fan.

Your daily dose of national music news for Wednesday, February 25, 2009... I guess Bono has forgotten he's in U2. Because, suddenly, he says he's afraid that Coldplay, The Killers and Kings of Leon are making better music than he is.  Eminem's potentially landmark lawsuit against Universal Music Group is going to trial. Em feels he and the label should split download royalties 50/50 instead of the regular way royalties are distributed. If he wins, it'll change thin

  • Sound Bytes: Kelly Clarkson's Album To Hit No. 1; U2, Jonases, AC/DC All Confirmed For Cowboys Stadium Gigs

Some quick news hits...According to Billboard, the fourth full-length record from Burleson's own Kelly Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted, which was released just two days ago, will reach No. 1 on the trade magazine's album charts next week, with an estimated 200,000 records moved in its first week. It helps, no doubt, that Clarkson played Idol last night, Good Morning America on Tuesday, and is playing SNL on Saturday. It will be Clarkson's second album to reach No. 1; meanwhile, her 2007 release, M

Which, in case you don't have a calendar handy, is Columbus Day. Go figure!Oh, and more fun news? English rockers Muse will open for the legendary Dublin-based act. Two follow-ups in this particular radio round-up. First, I exchanged a few messages with Alan Ayo via Facebook, and the long and short of it is, he's not at all upset that Clear Channel gave him his walking papers yesterday. Writes the former midday host and music director at KDGE-FM:I'm feeling rather liberated, excited, and have so much else going on, I haven't even had time to think about my radio past.I really don't feel I was ever a "radio DJ", anyway. Just a music fan who was standing in t

  • Hey Tech Geeks: Check Out U2's New Stage Design

A quick shot of U2's Barcelona stage.Over on Wired.com, there's a pretty cool story up, detailing the specs of the new stage set-up for U2's impending world tour, which kicks off tonight in Barcelona. Probably right about now, in fact.Anyway, it's a massive undertaking with huge screens and elaborate mechanisms. The idea, basically? To somehow turn a stadium performance into an intimate one. After the jump, check the video portion of the story. And then start wondering to yourself if/how the band

  • Carry That Weight: Because Of 'Overwhelming Demand,' Live Nation Releases More Tickets To Paul McCartney's Cowboys Stadium Gig

Like with yesterday's announcement that, upon the completion of production details, more tickets were being released to the upcoming U2 show at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, today comes news that--again, upon the completion of "production details," whatever those are--more tickets are being released to Paul McCartney's Wednesday, August 19, gig at the spaceship. Unlike with yesterday's U2 announcement, though, today's comes with explanation: "overwhelming demand." Well, hell, I should hope so

  • Today In Music News: Rivers Cuomo Is A Rip-Off Artist, Kings Of Leon Continue To Imitate and Kyp Malone Goes Solo

Your daily dose of national music news for Friday, August 28, 2009... Rivers Cuomo says he basically ripped off "Undone (The Sweater Song)" from Metallica.  Nathan Followill says Kings of Leon's new record is going to sound like Radiohead and Thin Lizzy. I guess that's a break from U2, right? TV on The Radio's Kyp Malone, aka Cornell West's long-lost-son, is hitting the solo trail this fall for his project Rain Machine.

Your daily dose of national music news for Friday, October 9, 2009...U2 would like their own version of Rock Band, just like The Beatles. Would you get more points for preening like Bono?Do you want to be on the new Does It Offend You Yeah? album? All you need to do is say "yeah."Don't go to see shows in Boston... you may get peed on.

For all the losers like me who are not going to the Death Star in Arlington to catch U2 and Muse tonight (or, for that matter, either the Alice Cooper show at the Palladium or the Maxwell/Common show at the AAC), there are a few out-of-town artists who dare show their faces in our area the same night as Bono and crew. One of them is Denver's Death Hickey Blues, which stops by Poor David's Pub this evening. Formed in early 2008 as a collaborative side project for guitarists Samuel Pritchett and

  • JumboJerry: You Too?

Don't really get U2 so I'm not live on the scene in Arlington, but one of my faithful Sportatorium readers sends word (and the above photo) from Cowboys Stadium that U2's monstrosity of a stage wouldn't exactly fit under JumboJerry so it had to be, um, moved to one of the end zones. Is the thing too big for its own good? UPDATE: I'm now hearing from folks who spent a pretty penny for tickets and primo views on the 50 who are, shall I say, a tad pissed that the stage was moved.

U2, MuseCowboys StadiumOctober 12, 2009Better than: Half-time at the proper name spelling bee.Hal SamplesFor more photos from last night's performance, check out Hal Samples' slideshow. The first thing everyone noticed, of course, was the much ballyhooed stage, a spider-looking contraption that house a circular inner stage, an outer-ring walkway, movable bridges that connected the two, and a 360-degree, high-definition screen suspended above it all.Extravagant doesn't even begin to describe it

  • Turns Out, It Took "Months of Planning" For U2 to Get That Claw Inside Cowboys Stadium

Moments ago, U2 posted to its Official Web Site a behind-the-scenes look at getting The Claw inside Cowboys Stadium. It's not so much a deconstruction of the reconstruction, but a brief chat with U2 360 Tour production manager Jake Berry, who explains how the band ended up in Arlington (the joint has great "amenities," which doesn't necessarily mean "sound").

  • U2's 360 Stage Crew Feels Its Set-Up Is "Second-Best" To Death Star's Massive Screen

In case you missed it: Over on Unfair Park yesterday, Robert posted U2's official behind-the-scenes video about setting up the stage for Monday night's show at Cowboys Stadium. In it, the crew reveals that it tooks "months of planning" to figure out how to make the stage work in the new stadium. But, more than that, one crew member admits to a serious case of screen envy: "We might have to feel second-best here, actually" he says. Go watch it for yourself.
