To be perfectly honest, I’m not terribly familiar with the work of Kansas City artist Archie Scott Gobber. I do know that “Gobber’s mixed-media constructions and works on paper slyly deconstruct ‘of-the-moment’ words and phrases, manipulating both surfaces and meaning in an often biting and humorous manner.” I also know that “Gobber’s work is both a satirically harrowing and hysterical take on how we have ceased to be a nation of citizens, but rather an assembled mass of easily manipulated consumers.” He also has a cool name, even if I want to call him “gobbler” every five seconds (Can you imagine what life must have been like on the playground for young Gobber? ‘Gobble, gobble turkey!,’ etc., etc. No wonder he became an artist.) So now you know what I know. If you’d like to learn more, check out Archie Scott Gobber: In Loving Memory of You through June 14 at Marty Walker Gallery, 2135 Farrington St. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 12 to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
