If there’s anything that’s still ripe for parody no matter how many times it’s been done before, it’s boy bands and contemporary Christian music–and there’s no local group more up to the task than the fine people at Uptown Players, who present Altar Boyz starting Friday at the K.D. Studio Theatre, 2600 N. Stemmons Freeway, Suite 180. Billed as a “foot-stomping, rafter-raising musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of their national ‘Raise the Praise’ tour,” Boyz contains several hilariously titled musical numbers, from “Jesus Called Me on My Cell Phone” to “Girl, You Make Me Wanna Wait.” Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday with additional showings at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, next weekend through September 6. Tickets are $25 to $30. Call 214-219-2718 or visit uptownplayers.org.
Fri., Aug. 7, 8 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 8, 8 p.m.; Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Aug. 7. Continues through Sept. 6, 2009
