There are only so many times a person can sit through yet another production of a classic or one of the Broadway hits, so it’s always a special treat when a theater company dares to take on a new play. Billed as “a dark comedy about love, family, loyalty and disembowelment,” The Executioner’s Sons is the award-winning work by playwright Catherine Bush currently making its debut at the Echo Theatre. The Executioner’s Sons tells the timeless story of the working man and his familial struggles–though the particular working man in question just happens to be one of Richard III’s henchmen, and his brood like playing with his axe, Ol’ Betsy. As the first of three winners of Echo Theatre’s Big Shout Out competition to take the stage, Catherine Bush’s The Exectioner’s Sons runs through February 19 at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Drive. Thursday night’s performance at 8 p.m. is “pay what you can,” with $20 tickets available for Friday through Sunday night performances. Call 214-904-0500 or visit echotheatre.org.
