Who says that fairy tales are only for kids? Just because there aren’t talking mirrors, poisoned apples or pumpkin carriages steered by horse-mice, it doesn’t mean that all magical love stories should be relegated to the nursery. In a story commissioned by the Undermain Theatre (3200 Main St.), poet and playwright Lynne Alvarez brings us the world premiere of The Snow Queen. Not to be confused with the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, The Snow Queen is billed as “a fairy tale for strange adults.” Set in turn-of-the-century Denmark, the play touches on the lives of Nina, the Snow Queen on the hunt for her seasonal boy toy; Christian, the boy toy in question; and Analiese, the girl who’s determined to get her man back in this winter wonderland. The Snow Queen takes the stage at Undermain Theatre through December 22. Thursday night’s performance starts at 7:30 p.m. with a special ticket price of $15. Regular showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8:15 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $15 to $25, depending on the performance date. Call 214-747-5515 or visit undermain.org.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8:15 p.m.; Wednesdays, Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 1. Continues through Dec. 22, 2007
