When it comes to Shakespeare’s classics, there’s a fine line between tactful updates and total bastardizations. A setting and soundtrack tweak here or there and you’re golden (thanks Baz Luhrmann), but a total revamping where it’s acceptable for Troy Dyer to become the Prince of Denmark makes people fear the update. Fortunately for us, Kitchen Dog Theater is the latest group tackling Shakespeare’s Macbeth. For a theater group to last 20 seasons in this town, you know they’re doing something right, and that’s why the Dog’s stripped down presentation of Macbeth is sure to be a hit. Macbeth runs through March 5 in the Heldt/Hall Theater at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, 3120 McKinney Ave. in Uptown. Tickets are $10 to $25, with performances Wednesdays through Sundays.
