Living only a block away from the million-dollar homes on Swiss Avenue, I have to wonder who’s been dropping the ball lately. The Halloween turnout was lackluster at best, and there’s nary a Christmas light on display right now–it’s a far cry from the old days of decorations galore. Highland Park started beating them out as the place to go to see light displays years ago, and now it looks like Grand Prairie is throwing their hat into the ring. With more than 3 million lights, Prairie Lights in Lynn Creek Park (5700 Lake Ridge Parkway in Grand Prairie) scoffs at the idea of an energy crisis, with their two-mile path of twinkling glory and a special Holiday Village and Walk-Through Forest. The lights will be on display now through New Year’s Eve from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (10 p.m. on weekends and holidays). Vehicle admission to Prairie Lights is $20 per car on weekends and holidays (with special rates available for weekdays, limos and shuttles/buses) and $2 to $5 for the Holiday Magic Light Show and Walk-Through Forest. Call 972-237-GLOW or visit prairielights.org.

Dec. 19-31, 6-9 p.m., 2008
