The city is closing off Walnut Street’s 100 block for maximum jamming to live Dixieland jazz, and you can stuff your face with hot boiled crawfish, Louisiana meat pies and beignets. The party kicks off at 5 p.m. and will last till 11, with lots of supporting businesses extending their hours. Mardi Gras on Walnut proceeds benefit the Music Theatre of Denton, a nonprofit, so you’re drinking and eating powdered pastries for a good cause. The lineup includes Strictly Dixie, Vintage Jazz Society and Dixieland Jazz Jam inside Sweetwater Tavern (115 S. Elm St.) and Ron & the Rowdies, Le Not So Hot Klub du Denton and Zydeco by Woody’s Rampage on the main stage outdoors.
