Think of artist Sevan Melikyan as the visual equivalent of Danger Mouse if you want, taking source material from other artists and reshaping it into something equally compelling. By running classic paintings by Van Gogh, Degas and Cezanne through photo software and breaking down their composition, Melikyan exposes the basic elements of impressionism, with the results looking something like blurred, eight-bit Nintendo renderings of the classics. See Melikyan’s work through August 15 at William Campbell Contemporary Art, 4935 Byers Ave. in Fort Worth, as part of the exhibit Acumen. Work by artists Jeff Mueller (whose paintings romanticize bathroom graffiti) and Shawn Wallis–whose monochromatic color studies seem like a roundabout way of applying for a job in the Sherwin Williams lab–is also included.
