If J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series is still a children’s favorite in 2147, perhaps community theaters worldwide will mount imaginative musical adaptations of Goblet of Fire and Half-Blood Prince, but luckily I won’t live to see it. Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There has already stood such a test of time, however, captivating generations of kids with the continued adventures of Alice and the nonsensical magic of “Jabberwocky,” the poem she can only read with the aid of a mirror. The Company of Rowlett Performers’ Wonderland! takes this rich source material on a fun-filled romp complete with doo-wop, bluegrass and hip-hop adaptations of Carroll’s words. So use your parental authority, put the kibosh on the Harry Potter worship for a day and take the kids to see some good old-fashioned, opium-inspired children’s entertainment.
