The 1982 fantasy film The Dark Crystal will be making a return to the big screen this weekend, and I have a few reasons why you should go. Sure, the movie will be in the middle of the night, but just hear me out. Jim Henson, Frank Oz, the Muppets, Sesame Street and Yoda. Yes, Yoda, considering Frank Oz was his original voice, and everyone loves that little Jedi master. Henson and Oz were the creators of the Muppets, and I assume you know the whole Henson and Sesame Street connection. Henson and Oz also directed The Dark Crystal. Are you sold on the movie yet? Let me give you a quick briefing on the film: It’s a story about the last two Gelflings, Jen and Kira, who are in search of a mysterious crystal to save the world from the evil Garthims and their emperor, Skekso. You’ll have to attend the screening to understand what a Gelfling and Garthim are, and why anyone would be named Skekso. The Dark Crystal screens at midnight Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
