Think the country is divided now? You should have been around during the Civil War. That time period makes molehills of modern-day gripes. In those days, Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee commanded American infighting of epic proportions. But they were both Americans and had more in common than just the ground they were fighting on. The Old Red Museum in the Dallas County Courthouse explores the lives and careers of the two men with Lee and Grant. The exhibit encourages audiences to rediscover both men using the generals’ own words and those of their contemporaries, conveyed through photographs, paintings, prints, personal items, handwritten documents and more. After you experience the exhibit, we hope you’ll quit whining and be glad that even if your Northern friends disagree with Southern politics, they won’t make a special trip to burn down your neighborhood because of it. Lee and Grant runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through August 11 at the Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture, 100 S.
