Some of my favorite things come from the Brits: The Cure, Curly Wurly bars, Minis and Clive Owen. But not everything English translates well to our shores. Whoever decided that it was a good idea to drink hot tea in the middle of the afternoon surely didn’t grow up in Texas. Nonetheless, Chef Darren McGrady, or “The Royal Chef” as he likes to call himself, is bringing his Royal English Afternoon Tea to the Landmark Restaurant at the Warwick Melrose Hotel (3015 Oak Lawn Ave.) for those who want to sip like a queen. At $125 a pop, you’ll be getting more than just tea and biscuits as Chef McGrady dishes about his time at Buckingham Palace (he served the Royal Family and was personal chef to Princess Diana) and autographs copies of his new cookbook for guests. Tea time is at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Call 214-224-3185 for reservations.
Sun., Aug. 19, 4 p.m.
