For the first time in Red Bull Flugtag history, five cities will be pitted against each other. Only one will claim victory. (Someone cue the theme to Highlander.) Saturday at Lake Carolyn in Las Colinas, Dallas will compete against four far less capable cities — Chicago; Washington, D.C.; Long Beach, California; and Miami — and we’ll win. Because we’re Dallas and we decry it, dammit. Flugtag is part flying machine, part effektvolle Darbietung and one additional part celebrity judges — Marty Turco, Pudge Rodriquez, Spud Webb and more. Every team will be judged on distance, creativity and showmanship — that’s the little themed skit part that launches the dang thing. Or not. Mostly not. There’s a lot of crashing and splashing, but it’s all part of the fun and hey, free Red Bull. The first flight is at 1 p.m., so get there and cheer loudly. There’s a national title on the line. Meet the teams at redbullflugtagusa.com.
