Jack Keller, the man who brought Dallas the iconic Keller’s Drive In, died Tuesday morning. He was 88.
Keller had been battling illness recently and passed away just one day after being diagnosed with liver cancer, The Dallas Morning News reports. The drive-up burger joint he created 50 years ago became a Dallas institution, popular with classic car enthusiasts and bikers who gather there on weekends. It’s also a beloved spot for anyone who loves a classic, no-frills burger, and to wash that burger down with a cold beer.
The Northwest Highway location of Keller’s celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, and along the way garnered national acclaim from burger experts like Josh Ozersky.
