At about 2 p.m., I decided to purchase tickets to Demi Lovato at Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie. Because why not? Now, I knew my friend and I would be some of the oldest people there sans parents, but we didn't know just how old we would feel.

I was too lazy to print out our tickets, so we had to have a QR code scanned from my phone. The service was crappy at the spot we were standing, and we couldn't get the freaking thing to load. With our Demi-inspired pink and blue dyed hair, we stood fooling around on an iPhone while dozens upon dozens of tween girls (too old for toys, too young for boys) walked past us wondering why two old hags (we're in our 20s) were there.

And they had a fair point. I was outgrowing Disney Channel just as Demi was making her big splash on the network. I honestly started to like Demi when she went to rehab, got a little street cred and came out better than ever with some awesome music. Plus there was the hair.

X Factor product Fifth Harmony opened the concert. My friend spent their entire set assigning each member a Spice Girl alter ego.

Right on that '90s cue, the girl group covered Destiny's Child "Independent Women." They motioned their mics to the audience for a sing-along. The song came out in 2000; most of the fans weren't even born then. They did not sing along.

Next up was Little Mix, who, it turns out, are a relatively older British girl group. They too covered some old hits like TLC's "Scrubs" and Destiny's Child "Bootylicious." My friend and I were shaking it, but the girls surrounding us weren't.

In between acts, a magician named Collins Key entertained the crowd. He wore me out. There's nothing worse than a 17-year-old boy with an ego, except a 17-year-old magician with an ego.

Finally, Demi appeared with her beautiful pink hair. She wore leather and played and/or mimed playing the guitar during some songs and was just all-around cool. The Dallas native made it a point to tell us how much she appreciated us. Before her song, "Warrior," she told the crowd how many shows she has seen at Verizon Theatre. She even named a few: Hilary Duff, Simple Plan and Kelly Clarkson.

Demi closed with "Skyscraper" and "Give Your Heart A Break." Everyone went nuts. They were the only two songs we really knew.

Two young girls next to us made their way out of the packed theater after the show.

"I don't want to go to school tomorrow," one said.

"I don't care. It's a B day," her friend said. "That was better than a Taylor Swift concert."

Of course Demi was better. Taylor has never gone to rehab.
