Seven of the Best Concerts in DFW This Apocalyptic Weekend, December 21-23

This Will Destroy You, True Widow, The Angelus Friday, December 21, at Granada Theater, $19-$30 Texas' cinematic rock group This Will Destroy You will headline a show at Granada this apocalyptic weekend with local stonegaze band True Widow and dark folk ensemble The Angelus. The San Marcos foursome has played several gigs in Texas after the release of their sophomore LP, Tunnel Blanket. The album forays into the darkest and heaviest sounds the band has created to date.


The Virgin Wolves, Trebuchet, Mothership, The Phuss Friday, December 21, at Hailey's Club, $5/$10 After three years, two EPs and several incarnations, The Virgin Wolves will be releasing their debut LP, Pretty Evil Thing. If you haven't done so already, check out the video for the album's single, "Black Sheep." Trebuchet, Mothership and The Phuss will greet you first on Friday.

Def Rain, Shiny Around the Edges, Cerulean Giallo, Secret Cakes, DJ Yeahdef Friday, December 21, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, $1/$3 This show features Ashley Cromeens, formerly of Record Hop, heading up new solo project Def Rain, and experimental trio Shiny Around the Edges, who co-headline on the heels of new piano- and sax-heavy release The Night is a Disco. Cerulean Giallo, Secret Cakes and DJ Yeahdef open.

Trap'd in the Closet Friday, December 21, at It'll Do Club, $5 Get trapped in It'll Do with renowned Dallas DJ Tyrone Smiley, who will be supplying the trap beats for the night, hence the name of the event. What is trap music? It might be this.

The Polyphonic Spree's Holiday Extravaganza Saturday, December 22, at Lakewood Theater, $35 The multi-member, choral rock band will be performing at Lakewood Theater this weekend, and will more than likely bust out copious amounts of instrumental and harmonic Christmas cheer for its hometown. If you survive the apocalypse, check this out afterward.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra Sunday, December 23, at American Airlines Center, $35-$69.50 Orchestral rock ensemble Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be making its way to American Airlines Center to perform a live debut of the band's multi-platinum rock opera, "The Lost Christmas Eve." They've teamed up with the Hallmark Channel for the debut production, so, there's that.

Gift Rap Sunday, December 23, at WAAS Gallery, $3 Local emcees Jenny Robinson and Bobby Sessions team up with Track Meet's Air Deejay and Ynfynyt Scroll, respectively, to see what happens when you pair up a rapper and a DJ who've had limited interaction and force them to create something new. BYOB.
